The Fish – Fish And Chippers | Heidelberg

Wagyu Beef Burger

I never thought the day would come that our food bill would come to $30.90 at a Fish & Chip joint. But it did… Normally, we can order heaps and heaps in these sort of establishments and just barely break a 20-dollar note, but not this time!

Nevertheless, the meal we had at The Fish – Fish And Chippers was overall pretty good. And it would also be good of me to mention that their shop is a few skips (and a jump) ahead of other fish and chipperies. Good me πŸ™‚Β  They’re a cut above the others because they actually serve fresh salads along with the various fish & chip packs – and have a semi-decent little eating area inside and out.Β  Okay, enough about that…food.

Veg Burger

Shawn ordered a Wagyu Beef Burger ($9.50) — yeah! you read right, Wagyu being served in a fish & chip shop. On Burgundy St. In Heidelberg!Β  Grilled onions, melting cheese, lettuce, tomato, yadda yadda yadda, all sitting atop a fat Wagyu patty.Β  Looked good, but let’s ask the judge: “It was good, but not so good I’d go back to have it again. I’d try something else next time.”Β  So there.Β  He also grabbed a piece of Fried Flake ($6.00) which was also “pretty good”.

Fried Flake & Chips

I ordered the Vegie Burger ($6.50 + $0.60 for pineapple) which was about a 6 out of 10 on my veg burger scale. Lettuce, tomato, onion, pineapple and veg patty. In all honesty, I could have thrown the patty out, it tasted fine – but I’m not the kind of vegetarian that has to have her food look like meat. To me, the best veg burgers are ones without a patty – stuffed with lots of other goodies instead of a mushed up meat substitute. But kudos to the (super) nice guy who took our order & served us, he told me that the patty in my burger wasn’t the normal patty they use (they ran out he says…true? Not sure, they probably don’t make many of them) and that if I didn’t like it – he’d make me another one. I didn’t bother to take him up on that, I was hungry. I ate it (β— β€Ώβ— )

Bean Salad

Anyhoo, we also ordered a minimum of Chips ($3.50) which were lovely & crunchy, plus a small Bean Salad ($4.80) with red onions and capsicum which was also pretty good.

As I said at the start of this review, overall The Fish – Fish And Chippers meal was pretty good. Nothing bad, nothing seriously outstanding – just a pretty good meal.Β  The bonuses of course are the salads and small dining area – and very friendly staff.Β  Definitely worth a try if you’re in the area!
