Our good friend and neighbor was stunned when we said “No” to her question, “You guys have been to the Warrandyte Strawberry Farm, right?” After a few good minutes of her blinking in disbelief with mouth ajar at the shocking revelation we had been missing out on one of the region’s best sweet spots…she said “Get in the car, we’re going now!”
And off we went!
After winding through the back streets, we crossed the bridge into Warrandyte and up through the town. And there it was. The sweet tooth’s haven. Two food trucks – one serving up instant deliciousness, the other offering preserves and fresh strawberries for home.
Our friend orders for us – as we’re still in shock ourselves from not knowing of this place before – ice cream with strawberries and sauce. Two vanilla scoops at the bottom of a plastic cup, a heap of fresh strawberries from said farm, two more vanilla scoops and a generous drizzle of strawberry sauce. Top with long-handled plastic spoon.
The little food truck also sold strawberry ice cream (of course), strawberry shakes (of course), hot dogs and jam donuts. If you’re ever in the area, make sure to pop by to sample one of the northern suburb’s best sweet spots…you may have to wait in a queue, but trust us – it’s worth int! Oh, and one more thing, apparently the food truck is a seasonal thing, so if you’re not from the area, make sure it’s approaching strawberry season, or call the farm, before you head out!
