Consistent, from start to finish!
As much as we love Indian restaurants, we must admit the decor and ambiance isn’t usually their strongest points, but not at Kanak. The dining room presents like a place you’d expect to see in The Age Good Food Guide – with friendly staff and a very dedicated head chef! They also have an equally well-presented upstairs function room.
But let’s get onto what you really want to know…the food! Started off with the Vegetarian Mix Entree and Potato Bonda. The mix entree had 3 pieces, all very nice – with the samosa being the star of the trio (cooked perfectly, still moist inside, firm yet soft flaky skin). The Potato Bonda was full of flavour, sort of like a round, mini “vada” from a vada pav. Let’s just say, they know how to cook & flavour their potato here!
For mains, we had the Aloo Gobi Masala (a rich, dry curry – loved the caramelized onions and strips of fresh ginger on top of the potato & cauliflower) and Butter Paneer (thick creamy, tomato-based sauce, slightly sweet with fenugreek throughout — and big chunks of paneer), complimented by saffron rice and garlic naans (lovely, a little thinner than I expected, but great tasting).
And as a side note – Shawn was pleasantly surprised with the selection of imported beers!
